Chelsea news: Jadon Sancho’s obligation to buy triggered

Chelsea signed Jadon Sancho on loan from Man United last summer. They had an obligation to buy him at the end of this season. That clause has now been triggered but the player finds his future uncertain at West London.

Man United signed Sancho as a promising youngster from Borussia Dortmund. But, the Englishman failed to adapt to Premier League football. He was one of the best young talents in the world at Germany. But, that quickly changed after he move back tk England.

Later, Sancho had a fallout with then United boss Erik Ten Hag. This resulted in him spending most of the first half of 2023/24 season on bench. Later, he was sent on loan back to Dortmund in January 2024. He once again shined bright for Dortmund and returned to Manchester.

But, United had no plan to keep Sancho with them this season. They tried to sell him permanently but were unable to do so. Hence, the opted to send Sancho on loan at Chelsea with an obligation to buy. Sancho had a great start to his career in London but now once again finds his future uncertain.

What are Chelsea planning to do with Sancho?

Chelsea’s recent win guarantees that they will not finish below 15th position in Premier League. Hence, the obligation to buy Sancho this summer has been triggered. The Blues will need to pay £25 million to Man United. However as per The Athletic, it is still not certain that Sancho has future at West London.

Chelsea can still send Sancho back to United by paying the penalty fee. They can pay United £5 million in order to take Sancho back. In addition, they can also opt to sell Sancho this summer itself quickly after making him their permanent player. Sancho has interest from Germany where Dortmund are planning to sign him yet again.
