Time in ownership could be up for Todd Boehly at Chelsea. Co-owners Clearlake Capital are wanting to buy him out. As if on-the-field problems were not already enough for the Blues. Now, they also have an on-going conflict in the boardroom. Despite having spent so much money, things haven’t been very smooth for the Blues. They did not have the best of pre-season in their US tour. In fact, they were only able to win 1 of their games. They also began the new Premier League season with 0-2 defeat to Man City at home. At the same time, they would again drop points at home against Crystal Palace in game week 3. And now, on top of all of that, they are enduring problems on a management-level.
Behind the boardroom battle: What is exactly happening
As of now, the ownership of Chelsea lies in the hands of Behdad Eghbali and Todd Boehly. Both are wanting to buy each other out. Apparently, their professional relationship is now in ruins. As a result, neither of them wants to work with each other. As per thesun.co.uk, Eghbali’s side own 61.5 per cent of the club. But, despite owning the majority share, they still have to wait for a go-ahead from the American. As a result, no decisions can ever be made without the consent of the 50-year-old. Hence, Eghbali and Clearlake Capital are very much keen on establishing control.
Will Todd Boehly give up on Chelsea ownership?
Eghbali has made it pretty clear that he won’t be selling his part of the shares. So, it’s a matter of both parties being very stubborn. As of now, the backroom is in total chaos. The control of the West-London club pretty much hangs in the balance. It will be interesting to see if Todd Boehly gives-in and lets go of Chelsea ownership. Or, perhaps he could stay and allow Eghbali’s side to make footballing decisions.
