- Chelsea are linked with young Brazilian fullback Souza
- Souza is being labelled as ‘the new Marcelo’
- The Blues will also face heavy competition from Spanish giants
Chelsea have developed a lot of new strategies in the recent years. One of it is to sign young players and hand them long-term contract. They sign the less known youngsters and plan to develop them into world class stars.
The other strategy is to sign young South-American talents before they catch eye of other European clubs. Chelsea have already done that when they signed Estevao and the player is now a hot topic in world football.
Chelsea now plotting a move for Souza
As per Spanish paper AS, Chelsea and Barcelona are leading the race for Souza. Souza is 18 years old and plays for Santos FC as a left back. He is being labelled as “the new Marcelo” due to his skills on the ball.
Souza has been able to break into the first team this year. He has played 7 league matches so far and started in 2 of them. Despite playing for only 219 minutes, Souza has picked 2 assists.
Santos FC are planning to extend Souza’s contract which is set to expire in May. The Blues will try to sign him for free in January and bring him to London next summer. AS have also reported that Chelsea may send Souza on one season loan to Strasbourg.
The Blues have already done the same with Caleb Wiley this summer. They signed Wiley for £8.8 million from Atlanta United and have now sent him on loan to Strasbourg. Wiley has played 5 games for French club so far and picked 1 assist.
Souza will surely be a big name in world football soon. Santos are aware of this and hence don’t want to let him leave for free. They will now speed up their contract extension process. On the other hand, European clubs will hold talks and convince Souza to do otherwise.
