Chelsea are on the verge of beating Newcastle United to complete their second summer transfer. The 22-year-old French forward, Michael Olise, has already agreed to personal terms with Chelsea. Olise has been a target for several big English clubs this season, including Manchester United, Liverpool, and Newcastle United.
Following the takeover of INEOS at Manchester United, Jim Ratcliffe believes that Olise could be a valuable addition to the Reds’ attack. Liverpool also considered Michael Olise as a potential replacement for Mo Salah. Last summer, Chelsea thought they had activated Olise’s release clause of $44.5 million, but the French forward had to activate the clause himself. In the end, Michael Olise signed a four-year contract extension with Crystal Palace. This frustrated Palace because of Chelsea’s conduct and behavior in the negotiations.

Current situation regarding Michael Olise
After the contract extension, Michael Olise’s release clause increased from $44.5 million to $76 million, which can now be a bit of a problem for the blues due to their PSR concerns. Still, according to football journalist Fraz Fletcher, Chelsea are preparing an official offer for Michael Olise. They have had talks with Palace regarding the scheduling of payments for his release clause to secure his signing perfectly this time.
However, the deal is far from complete as nothing is solid at the moment. Palace are still open to even bigger offers from other teams regarding Olise even though Chelsea appears to be the only one to bid for him at the moment.
Understanding Michael Olise
The 22 years old forward has been a part of clubs like Manchester City and Reading. He arrived at Crystal Palace in 2021. In the previous season, with a total of 19 games played, he had 16 goal contributions.
He plays mostly as right winger, sometimes dropping to the attacking midfield position so he can be put under the category of roaming flank and creative playmaker. His strengths lie in his crossing, dribbling, set piece taking and passing. However, there is still a room for improvement for his tackling. The major issue with Michael Olise is him being injury prone. All of his previous injuries were mostly hamstring injuries. But he could be the best possible partner to play alongside Chelsea starboy Cole Palmer.
Is Olise a replacement for Nkunku?
If Chelsea complete the signing of Michael Olise, it could pose a serious threat to Nkunku’s position at Chelsea. The 26-year-old French forward was brought to Chelsea after an impressive spell at RB Leipzig. However, he has been hampered by injuries this season, affecting his performance. If Olise joins Chelsea, he could play as a right winger, which would in turn lead to Palmer taking up the attacking midfielder position, reducing Nkunku’s chances of regular selection. Reports also say that he has attracted interesting deals from Saudi Arabia but still it is said that Nkunku has a role to play in Maresca’s tactics. Still Chelsea are very much open about Nkunku and are ready to sell him if they receive any kind of huge offer.
