Chelsea ready to place a bid for Viktor Gyökeres in January

As per the reports of football london, Chelsea can place a bid for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres in January. Despite of a disappointing loss against City in the matchday 1 of Premier League the Blues have recovered pretty well. Since then they have continued their unbeaten run in the league. As of now Chelsea are at the fourth place with 13 points in their name in 6 matches (4 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss).

Chelsea’s recent victory came against Belgian side K.A.A. Gent in the Conference League. The Blues won over De Buffalo’s comfortably in a 4-2 scoreline at the Stamford Bridge. The highlight moments of the match would be Nkunku’s another start as a number 9, Mudryk playing full 90 minutes and bagging a assist, Veiga’s first ever Chelsea goal and Casadei playing full 90 minutes again.

It seems like Chelsea have found their way back under the new manager Enzo Maresca. They are only 1 point behind Arsenal and City & just two behind table toppers Liverpool. So, a wave of hope started to flow in the Blues camp as they can be serious contenders for the silverware.

Chelsea to compete for the 1st place

There is no doubt that Chelsea have a world class squad. Packed with star players and potential. Their squad depth is also the best in the world. As they have players like Sancho, Neto, Mudryk, Madueke, Felix and others in their wings. To have control in the pitch Chelsea have the likes of Palmer, Enzo, Caicedo, Dewsbury-Hall in their midfield.

But the lack of defenders and strikers have always troubled the Blues. However, Chelsea’s number 9 Nicolas Jackson have started this season on a high note. But the fans have always criticised him for his finishing and they still doesn’t trust him as a long term solution.

In Jackson’s absence, Christopher Nkunku has played the role of a striker, and he also adapted very well. But to win the titles you need to have a out-and-out striker who can guarantee atleast 20-25 goals a season. So, it is rumored that Chelsea can explore options in the January transfer window for another striker and Gyökeres is one of the players in their shortlist.

Chelsea to target Viktor Gyökeres instead of Osimhen

Viktor Gyökeres who is considered as one of the hottest talent across the globe, is being targeted by top footballing clubs. The 25-year-old has caught everyone’s attention with his goal scoring abilities.

Gyökeres’s famous mask celebration

On the other hand Victor Osimhen, who was Chelsea’s number one priority signing this summer failed to complete the move before the deadline day. However, it was rumored that he will join the club in January. But now the situation seems very complicated. Osimhen whose current release clause is £62.7 million, hasn’t had an impressive stat since 2022.

So, Chelsea will not hesitate to pay £20-25 million more for Gyökeres who is on top form since last season. But it will be difficult as the Blues will have to compete with the top European clubs for the Swedish striker.

Is Gyökeres a better option for Chelsea?

Gyökeres has been exceptional since joining Sporting last season. He scored 43 goals across all competitions in his debut season with the Portuguese giants. To add more spice to his tally, Gyökeres has already scored 14 for club and country so far this season, which is the most.

Gyökeres also have the experience of English football, as he previously played for Coventry City. So, scoring goals will not be a problem for the Swedish striker. And, if Gyökeres joins Chelsea it will be perfect fit for both the parties.

The Blues will get an out-and-out striker on whom they can rely on. And if Chelsea succeeds to win trophies, Gyökeres will be pointed out as the main man. But things are not as easy as it seems like when you read the situations through articles.

Gyökeres’s current release clause is £85 million and Sporting will not accept anything lower than that. And moreover, rival side Arsenal are also in the race for Gyökeres, as they are desperate for a striker. So it will be interesting to see what decision Gyökeres makes, will he join Chelsea or any other club or will he stay at Sporting until the end of the season.
