Chelsea signed one young player in 2022 for €80 million. But, the deal has not went as per their plans. The West London club are now planning to sell him this summer despite him having many years left on his contract.
The Blues have made multiple signings since their takeover. They have approached the market with a bold perspective. They have signed young players for hefty fees and have handed them long-term contracts. But, this has not always ended well for them.
Although, the Blues have found some real gems due to not being shy in market. They have also suffered some consequences. Some player have failed to reach the club’s expectations. This has caused them to sign more players which has now affected them financially due to PSR.
Chelsea ready to sell young defender
One of the young players whom the Blues spent hefty amount is Wesley Fofana. The 24 year old joined the Blues from Leicester City in summer 2022. He costed them €80 million but the move has not went as per the plans of both club and player.
Fofana has struggled to stay fit at West London. In his first season, he played only 20 games whereas he missed the whole last season. This season, he started with full fitness but once again got injured in end of 2024. He has so far played only 14 games for the Blues.
According to Sebastein Danis along with Santi Aouna, Chelsea are ready to let Fofana leave this summer. They are ready to let him leave on loan or sell him permanently. The 24 year old is wanted by Marseille and the player too is open to join them this summer.
Fofana is tied with Chelsea until 2029 which makes the West London club strong in negotiations. The Blues are planning to sell Disasi and Chalobah too. They are keen to bring back Marc Guehi whereas are also in the race to sign Dean Huijsen.
