Chelsea keep a close eye on the progress of RB Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba.
The Blues are cruising through their 2004-2025 campaign. They have recently come from a victory in the EFL Cup. They registered a dominating 5-0 victory over Barrow in the round of sixteen of the Carabao Cup.
The new manager Enzo Maresca has managed to step up the club’s game last season. The last season was disappointing for the Blues as they finished sixth on the Premier League table.
Chelsea were among the busiest clubs in the latest summer transfer window. They were able to sign almost 11 new players for the team. Pedro Neto, Raheem Sterling and Jadon Sancho are some of the big signings.
The Blues are still looking to strengthen their defensive backline. The club has been recently linked with RB Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba.
The 21-year-old has a price tag of 60 million euros. Lukeba is still in a contract with RB Leipzig till 2028. The Bundesliga club believes that they will not expect a price reduction for the youngster. They currently stand strong for negotiations.
Some reports stated Lukeba was linked with a move to Liverpool from Leipzig. In 2021 the Reds were interested in signing the French international but the deal never materialized.
Castello’s performance however has again led to a rise of interest in signing him from the German club. Giants like Real Madrid and Chelsea clash swords to sign the player.
Chelsea is most interested in signing Castello Lukeba
Castello Lukeba is a young talented defender. The Frenchman’s performance for RB Leipzig has gathered interest from clubs like Real Madrid and Chelsea.
Chelsea have scouted Lukeba ever since Leipzig’s star defender Josko Gvardiol signed with Manchester City. Leipzig had a big hole on their defensive front. The arrival of Lukeba in the summer of 2023 helped the German club immensely. The youngster has made 39 appearances in which Leipzig conceded 29 goals in the season.
Lukeba was also a key player for his ex-club Lyon. He had a record of 12 clean sheets in 58 Ligue 1 outings. Castellos had a major contribution in a win of Lyon against Paris Saint-Germain. This PSG bolstered players like Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe. The scouting team have kept their eyes on the youngster and has been tracking his progress.
If Lukeba does join Chelsea next transfer window he will face stiff competition. Enzo Maresca already has players that fill up the role of Castello. The competition would include players like Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile, Alex Diasi and Wesley Fofana.
The January transfer will see many players leaving Stamford Bridge. Badiashile is set to depart the club as the team is looking to sign Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez. These openings in the defensive setup can open the gates for Castello Lukeba.
Spanish giants battle with the Blues
Real Madrid is also interested in singing RB Leipzig defender. The 21-year-old has grabbed the attention of Spanish giants recently. The interest of the Spanish giants spiked a few weeks ago according to Marca.
Los Blancos scouts kept a close eye on how Lukeba contributed to his team. RB Leipzig faced off against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
RB Leipzig acquired Castello from Lyon for 40 million euros. He has become the regular starter for the team. The French defender also played for the national team in the Olympics. France lost the Olympic gold medal to Spain this summer.
