Chelsea serious about defensive reinforcement this month

Chelsea are serious about improving their defensive line this month. They already have one player on their radar. They even made an initial offer which suggests their seriousness in getting the deal done.

The Blues have improved very much this season under new boss Enzo Maresca. Chelsea now have one of the best attacking units in the Premier League. But, it is completely opposite when compared to their defensive unit.

The Blues still lack a spark in the defence. They have been highly tested and often fell short. In addition, regular starter Wesley Fofana has been injured making the matter more worse.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano earlier reported that the Blues can be very active in centre back market in January. He has now once again reported that Chelsea are serious about adding one more defender to the squad this month.

Who is on the radar of Chelsea?

Fabrizio Romano further reported that the Blues have serious interest in Marc Guehi. The Crystal Palace captain has been topic of internal discussions. However, the Italian journalist says it will not be easy for the Blues to sign him this month.

On the positive side for Chelsea fans, Guehi has only 18 months left on his current contract. This will force Palace to part ways with the defender for a fair price. Lastly, other reports even suggest that the Blues have already made an initial offer.

According to The Sun, Palace have quickly rejected the offer from Chelsea. It is been labelled as ‘silly offer’ as the fee offered by the Blues is way less than the player’s valuation. The West London club needs to pay hefty fee to get the deal done this month.

Lastly, Chelsea do have other options as cover for their defensive line. They do have recall option in the contract of their loaned star Trevoh Chalobah. Chalobah is also at Palace on loan so we may very likely witness deal between Chelsea and Palce one way or another this month.
