Chelsea squad news ahead of the Liverpool clash

The Blues can miss out some of their key players against Liverpool next weekend. As Chelsea will be visiting the Anfield on 20th October, Sunday in the match day 8 of the Premier League.

Currently Chelsea is standing at the 4th place of the table with 14 points on their name (4 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss). And on the other hand Liverpool are the table toppers with 18 points (6 wins, 1 loss). It would be one of the most interesting game of the league because both of the clubs have newly appointed managers this season.

The Reds have been in top form this season under Arne Slot. Players like Ryan Gravenberch, Mo Salah, Ibu Konate has been sensational so far. And Chelsea also may have found their charm back under Maresca. As Chelsea’s striker problems seemed to be settling down as Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku has stood up under the Italian tactician. So this game will be a very good watch for the football lovers.

Chelsea current form

Chelsea’s last defeat came against Servette in the Conference League play-offs in August. But since then the Blues are still unbeaten across all competitions. They have played a total of 7 games since then, winning 5 and drawing 2 of them.

Chelsea may have improved under Maresca so far, but they are still not playing the top level of football. If you watch a Chelsea game you can see, at times Chelsea plays the worst possible football. So Maresca will need to fix that problems asap, if he intends to fights for the titles.

Chelsea’s run of consecutive wins ended last weekend when they faced Nottingham Forest at home. It was a disappointing result for the Blues before the international break. They should have capitalized all the chances they got to solidify their top 4 spot. Not only it was a disappointing game in terms of the performance or points but it has also created some selection problems for Maresca.

Players to miss out against Liverpool

The game Chelsea-Forest clash was a total mess of a game. As it was full off nasty fouls and cards and controversies. 6 Chelsea players were shown yellow cards by the referee in that game. And due to that reason the Blues will be fined by FA, a total of £25,000 for picking up more than 5 yellow cards in a single game for the second time this season. On the other hand Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana were amongst the booked players. And they will be suspended for the game against Liverpool after the international break as its their fifth booking of the season.

The Blues will definitely feel the absence of two of their main defenders against an aggressive side like Liverpool. We can see the use of experienced Ben Chilwell in the absence of Cucurella on Sunday.

Apart from that, Blues striker Nicolas Jackson can also be on trouble ahead of the Liverpool match. As he was captured slapping Nottingham defender Morato in his face. But FA have announced that no disciplinary actions will be taken against Jackson regarding the case.

Two more starting Xi players- Noni Madueke and Levi Colwill were also in doubt for the Liverpool game. As both of them were forced to be replaced at ending minutes against Nottingham. But Colwill did feature full for the Three Lions against Greece in the Nations League fixtures. So, he will be fit for the game next weekend. However, Madueke’s situation is still not clear as of now. But Maresca have stated in a press conference,

“Both are okay now that we are inside. We will see but I don’t think any problems with them.”
