One Chelsea star is causing a major headache for the club. The star is very heavily linked with exit this month. But, the player is making it very hard for the club to carry on with the transfer business.
The star in question here is Ben Chilwell who joined the Blues in 2020. The West London club paid £50 million to Leicester City to secure the player’s signature. Chilwell has a very good start to his Chelsea career.
The England international helped the Blues to win Champions League in his first season. However, that is the only season where the 28 year old stayed fully fit and played regularly.
Since the 2021/22 season, Chilwell has missed many games. He has been highly injury prone and lost his place as regular starter. He is way behind in pecking order and Enzo Maresca doesn’t trust him.
Maresca made it clear that Chilwell is not in his plans. The Blues wanted to sell him in summer but the player was injured. This made them to keep Chilwell but Maresca was firm on his decision.
As a result, Chilwell has played only 1 game this season. In addition, he was introduced in the second half in that game which means he has played only 45 games of football this season.
Chilwell causing major headache for Chelsea
The Blues do want to sell him this month. But, it was reported that no club has yet made any move to sign Chilwell. This has increased the worries of Chelsea and now the 28 year old has doubled the worries.
Chilwell has refused to take pay cut which will decrease his chances of finding new club. He earns £195,000 per week which is a very hefty package for someone who rarely pays. The Blues are now in a major concern.
The Sun have reported that the West London club will need to pay Chilwell with severance package. They can even send the player on loan and cover most of his wages. Earlier, they did the same while sending Sterling on loan in January.
