Chelsea are now set to face League two side Barrow in a Carabao Cup fixture. The Blues will play at home after emerging victorious in two straight away games. Enzo Maresca has selected his squad to face Barrow and one superstar has made his return back in the squad. The name of star in discussion is Ben Chilwell.
Maresca arrived to Chelsea with a strong intent and is not shy to take bold decisions. He told Raheem Sterling to leave the club and exiled him from first team training. Maresca wanted to do the same with Chilwell.
But as Chilwell was injured he was not able to find a new club. This kept him still at the club but it was expected that he might not play for Chelsea. But as per the recent news, The Blues have included him in the squad for the league cup.
Ben Chilwell back in the Chelsea squad to face Barrow
Firstly, Enzo Maresca told that Chilwell, Chukwuemeka, Tyrique George and Josh Acheampong will be in the squad. He added that some will start and some will be on the bench. Lastly, he said that ones who are on the bench will surely receive some minutes.
It seems like Marc Cucurella will get rest against Barrow. This suggests that the Chelsea fans will witness Chilwell operating on the left side after a very long time. Chilwell last played in an official match on 16th April against Everton in Premier League. He was substitute in that match and played a very short role of 10 minutes.
Many will not view the match against Barrow as an important one as they are a small team in League two. But, it will surely be the most important match for Ben Chilwell who should view it as last chance to revive his Chelsea career.
Chilwell has fell down the pecking order and currently is the third choice left back. Maresca prefers Marc Cucurella and Renato Viega above Chilwell. If Chilwell fails to deliver in this match there will surely be no way around this time. He must be prepared to leave the club in January. Full squad available on Official Chelsea Website.
