Blues winger Mykhailo Mudryk could be set to move away from the Stamford Bridge in January. The London giants are ready to accept offers for Mudryk. As the Ukranian has failed to live up to the expectations of the club.
On his break-out season, Mudryk scored 10 goals and 7 assists across all competitions with Shakhtar Donetsk. The winger made his mark across the globe, with his unmatchable pace and dribbling. He joined Chelsea from Shakhtar in 2023 for a whopping fee of €70 million. Mudryk was signed by the Blues on a 7 year contract, which will be expiring in 2031.
Failure of Mudryk at Chelsea
Mudryk’s arrival at Chelsea was itself a controversial case. As the Ukranian was very close to join rival side Arsenal. But the Blues hijacked the deal at the final hours. So, from the very beginning the 23-year-old had to face a lot of criticism since landing in England.
Mudryk has appeared 41 times across all competitions for the Blues last season. But he has only managed to score 7 goals and register 2 assists in those games. It is a very rookie numbers from a player, who was considered a top talent few years ago. Ex-Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf didn’t hesitate to criticize the Ukranian for his failure. Leboeuf claimed that he will not even spend £1 million for a player like Mudryk, who is not productive. While speaking to BoyleSports, he said,
“Who would want to buy Mudryk? I wouldn’t even buy him for £10 million at the moment. In fact, I wouldn’t even buy him for £1 million. Why would you want to spend money on a player who is not in any way productive?“
Current situation
Mudryk hasn’t had a lot of game time so far this season. He has played a combined total of 60 minutes in five Premier League fixtures. However, the Ukranian has managed to register 2 assists this season. One came in the Conference League qualifying match against Servette and another against Barrow in the Carabao cup last Wednesday. However, Maresca does not believe that Mudryk is suffering from ‘lack of confidence’. That is why Italian has asked the Chelsea star to ‘do better’.
Moreover, the signing of Jadon Sancho has also affected Mudryk’s future at the Bridge. Sancho who joined the Blues from United on loan, will be signed in a permanent transfer, if Chelsea finishes above top 14 in the table. Sancho has found his touch again and is also getting regular minutes in the last couple of games.
He has already registered two assists in two games in the Premier League. So, naturally the Englishman is preferred by Maresca over the Ukranian. So the rumor of Mudryk leaving the club at January is very possible to happen, as the player also wants to play more football.
What’s next for Mudryk
Chelsea have ran out off patience with Mudryk after 18 months of his arrival. The Blues management wants to offload the Ukranian in the January transfer window. As Jadon Sancho and Pedro Neto are the two preferred options at the left flank. However, it will be very hard to get rid of Mudryk permanently as very few clubs spend huge sum in the winter transfer window.
As per the reports of TEAMtalk, Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille are interested in the Ukranian winger. The Les Phocéens can bring the player on loan, from Chelsea. Marseille manager De Zerbi likes the play style of the Ukranian and believes he can pull out the best out of him.
It will be a great opportunity for Mudryk to revive his career in the French league. We have already seen the rise of Mason Greenwood at OM, as the Englishman has been the best player for them since the start of the season. It will be interesting to see what happens in January as Mudryk is also ready to accept new challenges.
