One Chelsea star who is very heavily linked with exit is not involved in talks with PSG. However, the star may still leave as he is desperate to switch sides mid-season.
The star in question here is Christopher Nkunku who joined the Blues in 2023. He had a tough start to his Chelsea career due to injuries. However, he has been superb this season despite not being regular starter.
Nkunku is way behind in pecking order. He even needs to play as a striker to get some game time. Despite starting the season really well, Nkunku finds himself as just a backup rather than starter.
This has made the 27 year old unhappy with his role. He is desperate to leave the club this month and has been linked with many clubs. One of the linked clubs is PSG where Nkunku started his career.
However, Fabrizio Romano has now reported that there are no negotiations going on between Chelsea and PSG. In addition, not even any talks have taken place. Lastly, Romano wrote that PSG are looking for a different kind of player.
Nkunku still keen to leave Chelsea this month
However, Romano has said that Nkunku could still move away from West London if he demands more game time and explores options. This suggests that the 27 year old is closing in on the end of his Chelsea career after just 1.5 years.
The Blues will not be affected very much with the departure of Nkunku. They do have a great squad depth and expected to do just fine without Frenchman. However, they will need to find Nkunku’s replacement due to one specific reason.
The reason is that Maresca was using Nkunku as backup for Jackson. The 27 year old’s departure will mean overload on Jackson. Hence, the Blues may make move for a proper number nine than player with same profile as Nkunku.
