Chelsea star sees his days numbered before the January transfer window

A certain Chelsea star might have his days numbered before the club thinks about offloading him in the January transfer window.

Mykhailo Mudryk has had a tough start to his life in London. Joined the club in January of 2023 for 89 million pounds from Shaktar Donetsk but failed to make significant impact on the pitch. We know time is not a luxury at a club like Chelsea. Eventhough he has longterm contract with the club it likely that his days are getting numbered in Westlondon. Anyway he has three months left to find back his form and impress the Chelsea management.

BEFORE CHELSEA

Before joining Chelsea in 2023 January, Mudryk played his trade for Shakhtar Donetsk in his home land Ukraine. A Shakhtar academy graduate got promoted to the first team in 2018 making his debut in the Ukranian Cup. After lack of minutes in the initial stages he was loaned out twice. But his breakthrough season came in 2021 with the arrival of Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi who normally trust on young talents. Mudryk was called back from loan and given his first UEFA Champions League debut against Monaco . Under De Zerbi, He rose into one of the most exciting prospects in world football at the time. His pacey runs and dribbling skills helped him to get past defenders easily.

His Champions League exploits against RB Leipzig, Celtic and Real Madrid that year gave him much needed attention from some of the giants in European football. Before Chelsea, Arteta wanted him. The manager also had conversations with player and Mudryk was himself convinced to join Arsenal. The club had agreed a fee with Shakhtar before Chelsea swooped in and hijacked the deal. Mudryk despite agreeing to join the Gunners, changed his mind and joined the Blues.

AFTER CHELSEA

The deal was done in January of 2023 and Mudryk joined Chelsea for 89 million pounds. This was the first time Chelsea had spent big in the Todd Boehly Era. And this was also the first time the Todd Boehly way of giving log contracts to players got recognized. Instead of the normal 5 year contracts which was termed ‘long term’ earlier, Chelsea started giving contract much beyond that. Mudryk signed a 8.5 year contract with Chelsea.

He made his debut against Liverpool as a second half subsititute. We saw some glipses of his talent that day but that was it, only glimpses were visible.

He failed to make a major impact on the field when given chances. Chelsea never stopped buying wingers and now he has a lot of competitions in the team. His pace was unbeatable but missed on easy chances and failed to make a productive imapact. Off the field he had some injury concerns also along the weight of getting compared to a legend like Eden Hazard. The Ukrainian was handed the number 10 shirt for the 2023-24 season. He is yet to settle at the club, whereas Jadon Sancho who came yesterday made instant impact.

MUDRYK FUTURE WITH CHELSEA AHEAD OF JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW

Mudryk was an unused subsitute against Bournemouth on Saturday. On paper Chelsea have a cram-full in the attacking quality upfront. Jadon Sancho, Palmer, Madueke, Jackson, Nkunku. Neto and Guiu, just look at that list. It’s tight competition upfront. Pedro Neto who came is this year is much more similar to Mudryk’s style of play. With young talents like Kendry Paez and Willian Estevao coming in next summer, we don’t think Chelsea would mind if they lose Mudryk for a descent money.

“We are following him. He is doing fantastic but unfortunately, he is doing fantastic there and not with us. We are going to wait until next summer when he will arrive here but for sure we are very happy in the way he is doing these things.” said Enzo Maresac about the arrival of Estevao next summer. According to The Standard

The ambitions of potentially signing Victor Osimhen next summer or in January might lead them to cash in on a dead log like Mudryk. Chelsea also would be aware of his market value plummeting day by day. Anyway it seems like there is only three months left for Chelsea to make a decision before the January transfer window arrives.
