Matthijs de ligt joined Juventus from Ajax in the summer of 2019. The Dutch prodigy was known to be one of the best defenders in the world only at the age of 20 only. But life in Turin has not been the easiest for the CB. It was either injuries or the other players being preferred over him that made him inconsistent and difficult to settle in.
But no one can deny the huge potential De Ligt has got and why he can be the best Defender in the world as he is just 23. Premier League side Chelsea have submitted an official bid in order to lure the Dutch boy away from the Italian side. The Bainconeri are looking to keep him but won’t reject if a worthy offer comes in for him.
Chelsea have submitted an €80 million offer for De Ligt and still have not gotten any response from Juve who want somewhat around €110 million. But it is reported that Juve may just be willing to accept the deal as this is the best time for them to cash in on De Ligt, who does not want to stay in Turin any longer and must leave to avoid his market value falling off. But it would not be a cakewalk for Chelsea as Bundesliga Champions Bayern have also come in for luring De Ligt away from the blues.
Juve Saw Off Great Competition To Lure De Ligt
2018-19 was a magical season for Matthijs De Ligt as he captained an all-new and young Ajax side to the Champions League semi-finals, eliminating Real Madrid and Juventus on their way through. De Ligt’s heroic performances in the UCL earned him huge praise from many pundits around the world and how he was already the best young CB in the world at that time.
But it was Juventus in the end who ended up luring De Ligt after fighting off competition from Heavyweights like Barcelona, Manchester City, and Manchester United. The former Ajax man was expected to lead the defense of the Italian side for at least a decade.
But things never came out as they were planned to be. De Ligt was barred by injuries which saw him be on the bench a lot of times when other players were preferred over him. Meanwhile, the Old Lady also have had a pretty rough couple of years, not winning Serie A and also making Champions league progression at the last moment. The Bianconeri is not what it used to be earlier which has been one of the reasons why De Ligt wants out.
