Everyone knows how hard Chelsea tried to sign striker this summer. They were linked with some big names but were unable to sign any of them. Victor Osimhen, Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko, Alexander Isak and many more were linked with the club. Chelsea were also looking at Jhon Duran but the deal never progressed.
The Blues are getting good results from their current strikers. Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku are used as strikers by Enzo Maresca and the duo has replied positively to Italian’s tactics.
Jackson has scored 4 goals and picked 3 assists whereas Nkunku has scored 6 goals this season. But, The Blues are still said to go after striker in the next transfer window.
Chelsea may regret not signing Jhon Duran this summer
Victor Osimhen is the top priority for Chelsea but they will definately monitor some other options too. One of them is Jhon Duran who has been unstoppable since the start of 2024/25 season.
Duran is used as a substitute for Ollie Watkins by Unai Emery. Despite coming from bench and playing very less time, Duran has been clinical in finding the back of the net. He has scored 6 goals in 9 matches this season.
Duran has been the best player for Aston Villa this season. He has more strike rate for goal and more conversion rate than Erling Haaland. Many big clubs are currently keeping tabs on him and he may be seen moving away from Villa park soon.
Chelsea had a chance of signing Jhon Duran in this summer. They had a meeting with the striker as Villa were ready to offload him. Villa wanted around £40 million for Duran which Chelsea found very high. West Ham United were also linked with the striker but this deal also never materialized.
Now as per Express, Villa will ask for around £80 million for Duran. Chelsea will regret there decision as they were able to get him for the half price this summer.
