Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez is ruled out from the best eleven by William Gallas. Gallas who has played for Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur has justified why he thinks the Argentine is on bench this season.
Enzo Fernandez joined Chelsea in January 2023 from Benfica. He had an amazing World Cup run with Argentina which forced the Blues to pay £105 million for him. But, after just one and half year, Fernandez is viewing himself as a benchwarmer.
The Argentine is now linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge. It is because of lack of regular game time. Fernandez has fallen down the pecking order. Enzo Maresca now prefers Romeo Lavia above him.
Fernandez is not starting regularly in Premier League and instead is used as substitute. He is started by Chelsea boss in Cup competitions which shows that the Argentine is not a regular starter anymore.

Gallas has a vast experience playing in the Premier League. He has played for all of the top three London clubs in his career. He made some bold statements about Fernandez and later justified why he thinks so.
Firstly, Gallas gave his best Chelsea lineup this season. Enzo Fernandez’s name was missing from that lineup and it was Romeo Lavia who replaced the Argentine.
“Enzo Fernandez is on the bench. The problem with him is that you need to change your whole system to accomodate him. You can’t put Fernandez next to Caicedo because he won’t defend” – Gallas while speaking to Genting Casino via Football London.
Lastly, Gallas added that Enzo’s game is 65% attack. He thinks that creates a problem as Neto, Palmer, Madueke and Jackson can’t defend. This will then force Caicedo to defend all by himself. Gallas ended by saying this is why Lavia plays ahead of Fernandez.
Recently, Maresca has paired Lavia and Caicedo and this is working out very well. But Fernandez is too good to sit on bench and is still 23 so will surely demand regular football. As of now he is linked with move away from the club and it could happen very soon if he is not being used regularly by Chelsea boss.
