The Blues are set to record a huge loss of €79.5 million next summer. It is due to Kepa Arrizabalaga who is on loan from Chelsea at the moment to Bournemouth.
Chelsea signed the Spanish keeper in 2018 for around €85 million. He was able to do a good job in opening years for Chelsea but was later replaced by Mendy. After Mendy left, Kepa once again became the first choice keeper.
The 30 year old played 39 matches in 2022/23 season but failed to impress. He was then sent on loan to Real Madrid where he played 20 matches and helped the Spanish side win Champions League. But, he was not the first choice keeper there either which made him move back to England.
The Blues then have sent him on loan once again and this time it is to Bournemouth. Kepa is doing well now and has played 6 Premier League games so far. He has kept 1 clean sheet and is now the first choice keeper for Cherries.
Why will Kepa cost Chelsea €79.5 million loss?
The Blues signed Kepa for €85.5 million in 2018. But now, they may have to part ways with him next year for just €6 million next year as per The Goal. This will result in Chelsea recording a huge loss of €79.5 million but there is nothing they can do to avoid it due to the release clause in keeper’s contract.
Bournemouth are said to offer Kepa a permanent move after this season. They will like to add a player of his caliber and experience to their squad. His price tag will make his move even more profitable for the potential suitors.
In his whole career, Kepa has kept more than 100 clean sheets while playing for four clubs. Out of those, most have came from his time with Chelsea where he managed to keep 59 clean sheets in 163 matches.
