Chelsea made an away trip to West Ham United for their fifth Premier League match of the season. They thrashed Hammers by 3 goals and claimed all three points. The Blues are now on the fourth position in the League with 10 points. Chelsea were superb in one specific position which may alter the plans they have for their top target.
Chelsea were brilliant on the front. Nicolas Jackson started the game as striker and scored two goals along with providing one assist. He was able to do it all in only 64 minutes as he was taken off by Enzo Maresca. Jackson was replaced by Christopher Nkunku who too did an amazing job while leading the Chelsea attack.
Why Chelsea may rethink about their top target
Chelsea are very highly linked with Victor Osimhen. Earlier, they tried very hard to sign him and were linked until the very last minute of deadline day. But, the deal never materialized and The Blues lost Osimhen. Later, the rumours started spreading that Chelsea will try and sign Osimhen in January.
But, Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku have showed that The Blues are already packed without Osimhen. Jackson who was player of the match achieved some very impressive stats against West Ham. Same was the case with Nkunku who played a short but effective role.
Firstly, Jackson is looking in top form this season as he has now scored four goals and claimed two assists in five league matches. He completed 82% of his passes against West Ham and had 100% shot accuracy. Jackson created two big chances and hence played the role of number nine brilliantly. If Jackson continues to play like this, he may force Chelsea to rethink about their top target.
Later, Nkunku came on and played for the last 26 minutes as a striker. He too had 100% shot accuracy and completed 91% of his passes. Furthermore, Chelsea also have Marc Guiu as a striker option who is only 18 years old.
The Blues may seriously think about signing another striker as they already have quality options available. In addition, they may no want to spend unnecessarily and avoid breaching the PSR rules. All of the stats are according to FOTMOB.
