Signing top young players have been the objective for Chelsea, since Blue Co took over the club. Here we are listing out the top 5 breakout players for te 2024/25 season at Chelsea.
Chelsea have spent huge amount of money in the transfer market since Todd Boehly took charge of the club. They have been investing a lot in signing young prospects from different parts of the world. BlueCo project has been focused on youth. So Chelsea this season have some young talents who could make an impact under Enzo Maresca.
Since the blues have an enormous squad with around 40+ players which is indeed a lot. We could see a few of them go on loan deals to find some minutes. But Football express is trying to list out the top 5 players that we think would enjoy a breakout year for Chelsea.
OMARI KELLYMAN
Chelsea signed 18 year old Omari Kellyman from Aston Villa for a fee of 22.50 million pounds. Born in Derby and was part of the youth system at Derby County. He first came into attention when the then Derby manager Wayne Rooney named him on the bench against Bournemouth at 16 years old. Then Villa snapped up the youngster and integrated him into their youth set up. Outstanding performances with the youth teams caught the attention of Villa manager Unai Emery.
He was then given his senior debut against Briston Rovers in a friendly. Kellyman made his competitive debut against Hibernian in the Conference League where he came on and gave an assist in a 3-0 win. He then went on to make further five senior appearences including a PL debut against Man City. This was enough for Chelsea to invest on this teenage star. With Chelsea participating in the Conference League it would be a great oppertunity for Kellyman to impress Enzo Maresca and team.
MARC GUIU
Chelsea have been always critisized for their transfer strategies. Some of their big money incoming have not lived upto the billing. But snapping up La Masia product Marc Guiu for 5 million pounds is some sweet business from the Blues. The teenager was first called for Barcelona senior team in the pre-season of 2023. He made his unoffcial debut against Vissel Kobe in a friendly. The same year in October, Guiu made his senior debut against Athletic Bilbao where he scored the winner within 23 seconds of coming on. The 6 ft 2 in forward comed into a team full of young stars. Even though he will be up against Nicolas Jackson and potentially Victor Osimhen for the centre forward position. After reglarly featuring in the pre-season for Maresca we hope to see him featured a few times this season. Guiu also scoredhis first goal against Club america in the pre-season. As of now he is foing to stay with the club.
JOSH ACHEAMPONG
Josh Acheampong is an 18 year old defender. He is a versatile player capable of playing at full back and centre back. It was reported earlier in this window that Real Madrid and Paris Saint- Germain are set to compete for signing the youngster. As per Goal.com. Chelsea academy graduate made his professional debut in the Premier league clash against rivals Tottenham Hotspurs in May. He is orginally a right back but can play at centre back also. It is his versatility that caught the attention of European giants. So clearly there something special with this teenager.
There are also reports of Chelsea willing to cash in the youngster due to the FFP rules. But if given time Chelsea have a gem of player at their disposal. With Chelsea already having a number of defenders within the squad it would be difficult to make the break. But the prospects of him appearing in a few Europa Conference League matches can also be considered.
Chelsea participating in the Conference League would be key in terms of providing oppertunities to top young players.
