Chelsea have a young striker as a top priority this summer. The player is already impressing in Premier League. His release clause is now activated and the Blues can land him by triggering that clause.
The star in question here is Liam Delap of Ipswich Town. He is 22 years old English striker who joined the Tractor Boys this summer. Delap has been very impressive this season and has attracted interest from all over the Europe.
Ipswich were keen to keep Delap beyond this season but it will be impossible. They are now relegated to Championship. Delap is too good to play in Championship and hence will switch sides. As of now, Chelsea and Man United are leading the race for him.
As Ipswich Town’s relegation is confirmed, the release clause in Delap’s contract is now activated. The interested clubs will need to pay £30 million to sign him. The Tractor Boys will demand that price to be paid fully.
Chelsea & Man United in strong battle for Delap
Both United and Chelsea are keen to sign a new striker this summer. Firstly, the Blues want a young striker to play as backup for Nicolas Jackson. In addition, they want him to compete for the starting position.
Enzo Maresca has identified Delap as his top target. The Italian has worked with the 22 year old in his time with Man City. Chelsea’s board are ready to back Maresca and are trying hard to sign Delap.
On the other hand, Man United are desperate to add a new striker. Ruben Amorim wants to resolve the goal-scoring crisis as soon as possible. The Red Devils are ready to part ways with both Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund.
Delap can be a great addition for both Chelsea and United. He will prefer to join a club where he can play regularly. He has scored 12 goals and picked 2 assists in Premier League this season despite the struggles of Ipswich. Player stats are as per FOTMOB.
