Chelsea tried really hard to land 19 year old attacking star on deadline day. But, they failed to do so and lost the race to their London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
The star in question here is Mathys Tel who was linked very heavily with a move away from Bayern Munich throughout the window. The 19 year old enjoyed a great last season but that was not the case this time. He started in only 2 Bundesliga games and Bayern wanted to part ways with him.
Firstly, Chelsea were keen to sign him but the player was not ready to join them. Bayern were willing to eager to agree the deal with Blues but Tel turned down the offer. He wanted to stay at Munich for a long time despite the club’s wish of selling him.
Later, Bayern made it clear to him that he is not part of their plans. He was kept out for 3 straight games after which Tel changed his mind. He was open to move and Tottenham came knocking on the door right away.
It was reported that Spurs were willing to pay €50 million to sign him permanently. But Tel once again rejected the offer. Later, on the deadline day Ange Postecoglou held personal talks with the 19 year old to convince him. Lastly, the French winger agreed to join Spurs on loan.

L’Equipe have reported that Chelsea tried once again on deadline day to sign Tel. They reported that Blues tried to sign the 19 year on loan but their attempt failed as Tel opted to join their London rivals.
Earlier, Tel was said to choose his next club based on some key conditions. He was said to move to the club where he can play regularly. At Chelsea, the squad number is very high which means there is no guarantee of Tel playing regularly in the Blues jersey.
