Chelsea US Tour comes to an end: Key takeaways from the pre-season

Chelsea made a tour to the US as part of the pre-season festivities. The Blues would go on to play 5 friendlies. It was a great chance for new manager Enzo Maresca to get to know his squad. He was able to see his men in action and assess his tactics. They showed plenty of potential in the games. But, once more, results were hard to get for them. Fans were able to see some new signings in action. They were looking promising on the field. At the same time, expectations are high around Stamford Bridge. They expect their team to make it into the top 4 this time.

It was important for Chelsea to have a good pre-season in their US tour. Especially, because of how their last campaign went down the drain. They were better than 22/23 team though. They managed to finish 6th in the Premier League. But, they were unable to secure their UEL spot. Man Utd beat Man City in the FA Cup final to qualify for the UEL. As a result, the Blues will now be featuring in the UECL. Meanwhile, Newcastle are out of Europe altogether. Also, the London Blues were doing well in the EFL Cup last time around. But, they ended up losing the final to Liverpool after extra time. So, they were unable to win any trophies last term.

A glimpse at US Tour of Chelsea

Chelsea head into the US tour to sharpen themselves in the pre-season. They had a tough fixture list from the beginning. But, it was necessary at the same time. Especially, as the Blues wish to fight at the top of the table in the league. Their first 3 games were supposed to be relatively easy though. Firstly, they faced Wrexham. They were on course to a defeat but pulled the game back in the final 10 minutes. As a result, they were able to secure a 2-2 draw. Next, they faced Celtic. They lost thoroughly as they would concede 4 goals and score merely 1, that too being from the penalty spot. They would secure their first win under Maresca in the 3rd game. The Blues beat Club America 3-0.

In their fourth game, Chelsea had to face Man City as part of their pre-season in US tour. They looked in good touch. But, errors at the back proved costly. Haaland would go on to score a hattrick. The Blues did manage to score 2 goals. But, ended up on the losing side as City beat them 4-2. Fans have not been shy from mocking their team for poor results. They fear it could be a repeat of the last campaign for their team.

Real Madrid victorious: Maresca misses out on another win

In their last game of the pre-season in the US tour, Chelsea faced Real Madrid. Once again, the Blues started weakly. Madrid were ahead by 2 in no time. Maresca’s men did manage to pull 1 back though. But, they were unable to equalize. As a result, Los Blancos beat them 2-1 in the final game. As per thesun.co.uk, Madueke was the best player for Maresca. Fans are not convinced from their team’s performances though. New goalkeeper Jorgensen went on to say that his team still has time to improve. Surely, he is not wrong and these were all friendlies. But, the Blues have a lot of work to do in very little time.

Without a doubt, Chelsea could have had a better pre-season in their tour of US. They have a good and young squad. They also have some very quality players on board. But, things didn’t work out for them. According to football.london, Sterling was ‘wasteful’ against Madrid. But, fans are still hopeful of their team. As per chelseafc.com, their fanbase continues to grow and they are keen to win games for them.
