Blues Eyeing Serie A’s Top Scorer to Improve Their Attack

Chelsea have defeated Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge by 2-1. They have claimed all three points after an impressive performance but once again failed to keep clean sheet. Here are the post match analysis along with key stats.

The Blues entered the match as favourites with home advantage. They were able to make the difference early in the first half itself. Pedro Neto justified why club legend Frank Lampard wanted him to start as he provided an assist for the opening goal in the 18th minute.

It was Nicolas Jackson who scored his 6th goal of the season and opened the scoring. Jackson has continued his hot form and made it 9 direct goal involvements in 9 Premier League matches.

But in 32nd minutes, Newcastle were able to equalize with Isak scoring his second goal of the season. Lewis Hall claimed the assist and the score was tied at 1-1 at half time.

Quickly in the second half, the Blues were able to get back their lead. Romeo Lavia assisted this time with Palmer scoring his 7th goal of the season. This goal was enough to secure all three points for Enzo Maresca’s side.

When it came to passes, it was again an close competition. Chelsea had an upper hand as they had 85% passing accuracy. Newcastle had 80% passing accuracy but had more long ball accuracy and cross accuracy than the hosts.

The story was once again same when it came to defending. Both of the clubs were able to win 8 tackles each and make 4 blocks each. Blues had an upper hand as they made far more interceptions (18) than that of Magpies who made only 5 interceptions. Chelsea also made more clearances (23) than that of Eddie Howe’s men who made 15 clearances.

Newcastle did made more saves (5) than of Enzo Maresca’s men (1). Lastly, the Blues had an upper hand in winning ground duels whereas it was equal competition when it came to ariel duels. Overall it can be said as an even contest where both clubs gave their best. Unfortunately for Newcastle, they fell short by only 1 goal and hence dropped all three points. In contrast, it was very nice evening for Chelsea fans who will be happy with their club’s performance.
