Supermachans come into this fixture with an impressive 2-1 win against Jamshedpur FC. They have Anirudh Thapa as the first Indian goal scorer for this edition of ISL and currently sit at 3rd position in the table.
Kerala Blasters finally got on the scoresheet against NorthEast United but are looking to bounce back with a win. They are yet to win their first match this season and are in 8th position after 2 league matches.
Chennaiyin FC vs Kerala Blasters Preview:
Chennaiyin FC will be looking to maintain their perfect start under new coach Csaba László. They have been looking aggressive in front of goal and when asked about his team’s style of play, Laszlo said,
“I also have my stuff and my knowledge about football, I want even more intensity because it is just the beginning, it is important to use your knowledge and your head and this was also important for me to come with my stuff. In Indian football, we need knowledge from the staff members“– Chennaiyin FC head coach Csaba László
However, it’s not been that good for the Yellow Brigade as they blew away the 2-0 lead in the second half against NorthEast United and escaped with a draw. However, the first half showed some wonderful set-piece goals and the attack looks pretty much strong enough.
Kerala follows a less intense, more possession-based style of play. Tackling with a team like Chennaiyin would be difficult considering the records against them. Last season, Kerala were defeated by 3-6 at home after a lacklustre defence.
This season, the Costa-Kone duo are expected to shine but the games remain open. Kibu Vicuna, the new Head coach, doesn’t like such a style of play.
“I think we played really well in the first half, we had the ball, we controlled the match but after the first goal the match was very open and we don’t like it when the matches are open. I think we are on our way but we’re of course very upset and disappointed because today we lost two points,”– Kerala Blaster head coach Kibu Vicuna
The positives are, the good form of captain Sergio Cidoncha and Gary Hooper. However, the form of Vicente Gomez is concerning.
Chennaiyin FC vs Kerala Blasters : Team News
Chennaiyin FC have not reported any injuries so far. They would start with the same starting 11 in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Injured Kerala player Rahul KP has resumed training with teammates however, it is not sure whether he will be in the starting lineup.
However, Kibu Vicuna includes Sahal Abdul Samad in the lineup. Kerala will start with a 4-1-4-1 formation and Sahal might take the position of Rohit Kumar.
It looks like Cidoncha fits perfectly and is playing with more offensiveness. The new formation looks great for Kerala Blasters. It would be exciting to see Sahal and Thapa play against each other as they prove themselves to be the emerging top players in Indian Super League.

Chennaiyin FC 2 -3 Kerala Blasters
Chennaiyin FC will have a tough match against the defence of Kerala Blasters. In the last match, Blasters showed glimpses of brilliance by playing attacking football in the 1st half.
They could create wonders against Chennaiyin if they don’t lose the ball through missed passes.
