The 2021/22 was yet another season of disappointment for Paris Saint-Germain. The club got knocked out from the UEFA Champions League in the Round of 16. The Parisians suffered elimination despite winning the first leg of the tie 1-0 at home.

However, a remarkable turnaround by the eventual champions, Real Madrid knocked out the club in the second leg. Karim Benzema scored a sensational second-half hat-trick for Los Blancos to turn the tie on its head and shatter the hearts of the French club yet again.

Paris Saint-Germain won the Ligue 1 title under the leadership of Mauricio Pochettino. However, it is clear that the club’s ambitions go far beyond winning the league. Laurent Blanc and Unai Emery both had plenty of domestic success, however, lack of European success proved to be the reason for their departures.

Mauricio Pochettino has joined the list of managers that have been let go by the Parisians in search of European success. The Argentine was sacked by the club in order to pave way for Christophe Galtier. The latter left his position at OGC Nice to take over the French champions.

Christophe Galtier is known for his strict rules and task-master attitude that helps him bring success to a club. The manager has implemented similar strict rules at Paris Saint-Germain ahead of the upcoming season.

Squad morale is the main focus at Paris Saint-Germain for Galtier

The new manager has imposed a strict rules related to team meals and conduct during the meals. The use of mobile phones has been banned by Christophe Galtier in an attempt to bring the squad closer. The manager believes that spending time off the pitch will go a long way in building chemistry on the pitch.

The Parisians are currently touring Japan as part of their pre-season. The club has enjoyed two comfortable victories in their first two friendlies. However, the main observation from the pre-season tour is that the squad has responded well to the strict rules of Christophe Galtier.

Senior players including Neymar, Marquinhos, Marco Verratti, Kylian Mbappe, and Lionel Messi have responded well to the new rules. Neymar especially has been under the microscope due to reports of a possible departure. However, the Brazilian is fully committed to the club and has looked full of enthusiasm in pre-season ahead of the new season.

Christophe Galtier will be hopeful that this newfound hope and enthusiasm in his squad will help the team. The club will hope to emulate the league’s success and do well in the UEFA Champions League this season as compared to last season.
