Christopher Nkunku on the radar of Arsenal

Arsenal is plotting a move for RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku. The 23-year-old has been amazing this season for Leipzig, scoring plenty of goals and assist already.

The latest news comes from the Italian outlet Calciomercato. According to the report, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is an admirer of Nkunku and wants to sign him in the summer.

However, signing him will not be cheap. Nkunku has a contract that runs till 2024 with Leipzig and Arsenal will have to pay a hefty sum for his transfer.

Christopher Nkunku has been an important part of the Leipzig side since his move from PSG. The attacking midfielder has hit another gear this season as he has added more goals to his name. He already has 9 goals and 5 assist from his 13 appearances for Leipzig across all competitions.

His excellent form in front of the goal is rightfully catching the interest of other top clubs. Another factor that makes Nkunku stick out is his versatility. Traditionally an attacking midfielder, Nkunku has been used in a variety of positions from the left and right side of midfield to as a second striker.

Arsenal previously has been in the market for an attacking midfielder. But they did sign Martin Odegaard and also have Emile Smith Rowe starting to hit form. Hence for Arteta, the plan with Nkunku looks to be to use him in the wings and use his quality to plug in the Arsenal team.

But the Gunners will have a tough competition to land the 23-year-old. His contract situation firstly makes him very expensive to sign from Leipzig. Even then, there are other clubs like Manchester City, that are monitoring Nkunku. With the Champions League to offer, City will have an edge over Arsenal.
