Christopher Nkunku to Old Trafford?

Nkunku

Manchester United is planning to go big this summer and till now has been linked for a transfer with almost all available players. This is quite normal for a club as big as Man Utd. One man who has certainly topped the list of Ten Hag’s possible transfers is Christopher Nkunku.
Manchester United eye Nkunku as a transfer target after receiving the recommendation from former interim coach Ralph Rangnick. Nkunku has completely transformed himself and is one of the most promising aspects of Europe. The interest from the Red devils has been confirmed by a reputed journalist from ESPN, Mark Ogden.

Nkunku and his resurgence

Nkunku in his debut season of 2019/20 gave a little glimpse of play-making forward into who he’s today. Good technical abilities on the ball with fantastic dribbling make him an all-around playmaker. In his first season in the Bundesliga, the player wrapped up 13 assists and 5 goals. He averaged 39 touches per match with 1.6 shots per 90. He created 13 big chances and all of them got converted but missed 9 such chances.
Nkunku back then had a great vision & could split defenses easily but this season he took things to a whole new level.
This season, his role have changed within the team, and are taking a higher starting position. He started dominating the right-wing and center-forward role adding pace to his engine as he made his way to the opposition’s box.

This season he played 22 games and started 21 of them combined with 11 goals and 7 assists. He created 10 big chances with 0.5 goals per 90. His shots per game improved from 1.6 to an impressive 2.4. With 1.9 key passes, he plays the role of a midfielder as well as a playmaker and this didn’t go unnoticed as the player is wanted by every top club in Europe.

He is now partnering with Andre Silva in a 3-4-1-2 formation and for most games this season his position was highest among any of RB Leipzig‘s players.
Stretching the opponent’s backline, and getting behind the defenses is a trait Manchester United misses since Sir Alex Ferguson has left. Nkunku is a player who stretches you vertically and Manchester United is guilty of this too many times. Players from the current Man Utd squad approach the ball at moments but not many players get behind. Nkunku is a forward in the form of an attacking midfielder and can very well play the role of false 9 which united currently lacks.
