Cole Palmer to miss Arsenal game? Maresca gives injury update

Enzo Maresca has given an update on Cole Palmer’s injury. Tomorrow, all the focus will be at Stamford Bridge when Chelsea faces off against the Gunners in one of the biggest London derbies of the season. However, there is a subplot in the making. Return of Odegard, injury to Cole Palmer.

The 22-year-old Chelsea midfielder Cole Palmer picked up a left knee injury while being tackled in the match against Manchester United. He missed training sessions earlier this week and, because of that, as a result, he was unable to play.

Concern was raised also among fans and the coaching staff because of his absence. The drama was heightened by the fact that Palmer was already removed from Enzo Maresca’s European squad who played Noah in the Conference League. He was left on the side watching his teammates play on the pitch.

But there’s some hope. Maresca said that he is hopeful Palmer would be able to train on Friday or Saturday. The goal? He wants to get him match-fit ahead of the big game against Arsenal. And, in this setback, Cole Palmer isn’t taking this lying down.

On Instagram, he posted a picture of himself in training gear, whilst being treated by cold compression therapy on his injured knee at Chelsea’s training ground. He’s committed to recovery, but still, the big question is whether will he recover on time.

Cole Palmer To miss the Arsenal game?

With the Premier League table looking promising, Chelsea are only looking to go higher. Victory over Arsenal would put them in Third. They can also think that they can win the title.

However, Arsenal is in trouble after recent defeats to Newcastle United and Inter. Chelsea will have to work hard to make sure they avoid an early slide into the mire of defeat and they’re desperate for redemption. The Gunners need to assert themselves again and get their form back.

That could be to the good, Cole Palmer’s potential return as a game-changer. He produces with creativity, works hard, and unlocks defences for themselves. If he plays on the pitch, Chelsea has an advantage.

The left-footed attacking player is surely brilliant. His ability to play wide as part of a front three or as a central number 10 is what his versatility gives him. Palmer thrives playing the role of loyal hugging the touchline or clever organizing play through the middle.

Palmer is one of the standouts on the team when it comes to vision and passing. He can break down opposing defences with shots through the ball at just the right time. Often these passes tend to be bent inwards catching defenders off guard.

Importance of Midfielder

While it might be going between centre-backs or exposing the space between full-backs and centre-backs, Palmer’s awareness of the ball is imperative.

Palmer likes being placed in the inside right channel. From there he then has the use of his stronger left foot to curve balls in towards the center. He’s able to put crosses into the box to create chances for runners on the other side while disrupting the opponent’s defensive shape.

Palmer also dribbles the ball wide and commits defenders to get numbers down. He doesn’t force them back past him. He once engaged and suddenly swings the ball around to his left foot, to cross or to shoot. In tight areas, he even is a threat with his telepathic understanding of how spaces move.

Despite his slender frame, Palmer knows how to cover the ball well. He uses his body to protect the ball and set up attacking opportunities, keeping possession. Last time when Arsenal faced Chelsea they won 5-0. Then also Cole Palmer wasn’t playing. This would be a problem for Chelsea if Cole Palmer doesn’t play.
