Aston Villa’s loaned-out star Conor Hourinhane has confirmed that he could leave the Birmingham-based club and West Brom are eyeing a move for the Irishman.
The 31-year-old has spent this season out on loan at Sheffield United. The midfielder has scored a solitary goal and notched up four assists in 29 Championship appearances. He also came on from the bench in the second half of the extra time in the Blades’ playoff game against Nottingham Forest.
But, he had to endure a sour ending to his loan spell at Bramall Lane. As he missed his penalty kick in the shoot-out. And eventually, lost the game.
Speaking to the Irish Examiner. The Ireland international has confirmed that his time might be up at the Villa Park. And there haven’t been any negotiations about extending his deal which will expire at the end of this season. He said:
“That Villa chapter is probably done. There’s been nothing, to be honest with you. No conversations there so we’ll see what happens in the summer.”
Meanwhile, earlier reports claimed that West Brom are showing interest in signing Conor Hourinhane for free this summer. And after Sheffield United failed to book their tickets for the Premier League. The championship is seemingly a likely destination for the 31-year-old.
Should West Brom sign Aston Villa outcast Conor Hourinhane?
Conor Hourinhane hasn’t featured regularly with Aston Villa since their first season after promotion. Meanwhile, the Birmingham-based club are looking to fight for the top half of the table. And qualifying for Europe is one of the main goals for next season.
The midfielder has failed to prove his worth in the Premier League. And therefore, letting the 31-year-old leave the club will be the right decision by the club’s hierarchy.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa will have a big part to play in deciding the fate of both halves of the points table. The Villans will play against Burnley who are fighting for survival. On the other hand, they will travel to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday to meet Manchester City. That game will decide who will become the Champions of England this season.
