Crystal Palace join race for one of Chelsea’s top earners

FINANCIAL FAIR PLAY

Crystal Palace are currently linked with one Chelsea star who earns a hefty amount of money. He is the second highest earner at the club but is mostly sitting on bench. The Blues are desperate to sell him as soon as possible.

Crystal Palace join race for struggling Chelsea star

The Chelsea player in discussion here is Ben Chilwell. Chilwell earns £200,000 per week which makes him second highest earner at the club. But, the problem is the fullback spends most of the time on bench and has only played 45 minutes this season.

The reason behind Chilwell not playing regularly is that he has fallen down the pecking order. New boss Enzo Maresca prefers Cucurella and Viega above him. He even prefers to use Reece James as leftback instead of playing Chilwell.

Chelsea were interested to sell Chilwell in January but were unable to do so. It was due to the player’s injury but will now sell him in january itself. The player is still 27 and hence he too will like to play regularly.

As noted by The Sun in september, Crystal Palace are keen to sign Chilwell. They are still interested due to the fullback’s quality and availability in winter market. The Eagles are having a hard time right now. They are on the 18th position in Premier League and hence make some key signings in January.

Chilwell can be a key asset for the club. He will surely be an upgrade on any of the current Palace fullbacks. In addition, he may be open to move as his only aim now is to get regular football.

Palace may opt to sign Chilwell on loan for a half season. They may moniter the player for rest of this season before handing him a long-term contract. But, it will depend on what Chelsea think of this situation as they want to part ways with Englishman permanently.
