De Jong Open To Join Chelsea Rather Than Manchester United

Barcelona

Frenkie De Jong‘s future is up in thin air. The Dutch midfielder is rumored to move away from Camp Nou this summer. Manchester United have emerged as the most likely club where he will end up going. Terms have been agreed between Manchester United and Barcelona but the Dutchman has no intention to move to Old Trafford. The midfielder considers it a big downgrade from Barcelona and has said ‘NO’ to a move away.

The 25-year-old has had a mixed career at Barcelona so far. Sometimes, his performances have been world class and other times, they have been below level. But his young age proves that he still has time to improve and is yet to hit his prime. Frenkie feels it will be a letdown in his career if he moves to Manchester. Erik Ten Hag is pushing for De Jong to come with the player not keen on the move.

The last few days have been hectic in the transfer window. Thomas Tuchel‘s Chelsea have come into the race for Frenkie De Jong. The German is keen to bring the midfield sensation to London to solve Chelsea’s midfield issues. With N’golo Kante turning 31 and Jorgingo giving inconsistent performances, De Jong can be the statement signing for Chelsea. But a transfer like this is not too easy to pull off with the cost involved.

Barcelona to go after Bernardo Silva if De Jong moves

It seems like Barcelona have already made up their mind on who will be replacing De Jong. The Catalans have set their eyes on Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva. As per reports in Spain, a fee has been agreed over the potential transfer of Silva to Barcelona. However, the transfer will only take place if De Jong agrees to move to either Chelsea or Manchester United.

It will also be interesting to see if De Jong gets to be a starter next season. Frank Kessie has impressed the Barcelona staff a lot. Pedri and Sergio Busquets also will most likely be starters. With Gavi and Nico Gonzales pushing for a spot, De Jong might not get that much playing time in Barca. If he does end up staying next season, then it might prove to be a hindrance in De Jong’s career.
