Deadline day at Chelsea: Jadon Sancho in, Raheem Sterling out

Chelsea make major moves on deadline day with Jadon Sancho coming in from Man Utd and Raheem Sterling goes out on loan to Arsenal.

The transfer window is finaly shut, and on friday we saw Chelsea compose some moves in the transfer market. Jadon Sancho who was out of favour at Man Utd secures a move to Stamford Bridge. While Raheem Sterling who faced a similar situation at Chelsea signed for rivals Arsenal. More on these deadline day moves below..

JADON SANCHO TO CHELSEA

Chelsea had expressed their interest in signing Sancho from Man Utd last week. But the blues were also focused to getting rid of some outcast players before going on and signing the Englishman. This lead them wait till the deadline day to make their move. Chelsea had also offered Man Utd the services of Raheem Sterling in order to get the deal done. But the United never wanted Raheem Sterling or any of the Chelsea outcasts. The deal lagged on till friday.

The transfer was in a limbo until Arsenal came in for Sterling. When it was confirmed that there were takers for one of their outcasts Chelsea went ahead with the move. The Blues were also convinced that the only way they are going to sign Sancho was on loan. So they decided to offer two different proposals to Man Utd.

One with bigger loan fee, bigger add ons and bigger transfer fee but the loan deal had only a an option to buy. There was no concrete decision that Chelsea are going to buy Sancho in 2025.

The second one featured lower loan fee, lower transfer fee but with an obligation to buy. This deal makes sure that Sancho will be sold in 2025.

They were able to find an agreement before the deadline and it was sealed. Jadon sancho signed for Chelsea on loan with an obligation to buy. The fee is set to be between 20 to 25 million pounds. According to football.london, there is also a bizzare clause in the contract which says if Chelsea finish below 14th on the table the obligation to buy is void.

RAHEEM STERLING TO ARSENAL

Arsenal struck goal on deadline day as they secure the services of Raheem Sterling for this season. Raheem Sterling’s career has been about moving between the top clubs. Arsenal being his fourth club among the so called big six of English football. Now a season long loan move to Arsenal to help get minutes after being banished from the first team at Chelsea. The Blues were desperate to get rid of one of their outcast players to facilitate the transfer of Jadon Sancho.

Sterling was training with Chelsea developmental team after Enzo Maresca publicly stating that the English man is out of his plan. So he was desperate to move away from Stamford Bridge in order to find minutes. That’s when on deadline day Arsenal came in with a loan move. Now Chelsea were put in a position where they had to get rid of their outcast player somehow so that they could sign Sancho from United. Arsenal capitalised on the oppertunity and porposed a loan deal with no obligation to buy, no buy option and a 50-50 split onthe wage bill. The blues had to accept whatever they had been presented with. So thus the deal went throgh just in time before the deadline.

It was announced late night with Sterling quoting ‘You’re about to see the best of me’.

Sterling arrived at Arsenal training centre at night to meet with the Gunners sporting director Edu Gasper and sign his contract with the club. Arsenal on the other hand got hold of one of the most experinced player in the Premier League. Sterling also has more than 100 goals in the top flight along with the title winning mentality which Arsenal and Arteta need the most.
