Raheem Sterling’s United snub for Arsenal

Manchester United sold Scott McTominay to Napoli and are on the verge to sell Sancho to Chelsea. With these plans, they also had plans to sign Chelsea outcast, Sterling on a loan with an obligation to buy. Their plans completely failed after David Ornstein reported that Arsenal were in talks with Chelsea and Sterling. The deal was confirmed after Arsenal posted Sterling’s signing on their social media platforms after some hours of the rumour.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Sterling said “Trust me. You’re about to see the best of me”. He also said that “Joining Arsenal is really an unbelievable feeling. I’m buzzing, I’m repeating, this is a perfect fit for me!”. Mikel Arteta in the press conference said that his time with Raheem had be exceptional and that he has a strong feeling about him. Arteta was in the support staff of Manchester City under Pep Guardiola where Sterling played for 7 years.

After being outcast from Chelsea’s squad for having trained away from the first team, Sterling really wanted the deal to be cracked. Enzo Maresca had clearly stated that Sterling and others who trained away won’t get any minutes if they stay. However, now that he has signed a deal with Arsenal, he will look forward to get back his form.

Can Sterling help Arsenal clinch the PL Title after 21 years?

Raheem Sterling’s performances at Chelsea had not been impressive in the last two seasons. He scored 10 goals and 8 assists in 43 appearances in 2023/24 and 9 goals and 4 assists in his 38 appearances in 2022/23. But looking forward to a new setting and condition, he sure to be a great asset for the Gunners this season.

Arsenal qualifed for the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 2016-17 season. The Gunners will play PSG, Inter Milan, Girona, Atlanta, Monaco, Shakhtar, Sporting Lisbon and Dinamo Zagreb in group stage. Arsenal have a formidable attack that they can form with players like Saka, Odegaard, Havertz, Sterling and Rice. Arteta will utilise Sterling well as he knows his playing style and how to keep his form consistent.

In the next two months, Arsenal will face Manchester City, Liverpool and the North London derby with Tottenham Hotspur. Concurrently they are also supposed to play their Champions League and EFL Cup matches. The Gunners are currently eyeing to break City’s four consecutive league titles streak. They will look to take revenge missing out the title by whisker last season.

Raheem Sterling’s target would not just want to get back his form but also make a comeback to the national team. The English Team is supposed to play the UEFA Nations League 2024-25 with a larger focus on the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Sterling will try to make a comeback into the team for the Nations League as well as the World Cup Qualifiers next year.

Now that the summer transfer window has closed the teams good time to assess the new players. Both Arsenal and Chelsea are eyeing the title but their focus would also be a top four place throughout the game weeks.
