Depay is closer than ever to leaving Barcelona

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Memphis Depay finally looks set to leave Barcelona. The 28-year-old is reportedly set on terms with Juventus for a 2+1-year deal. The Bianconeri are just trying to decide the salary to be given to Depay. He has been very professional with Barcelona despite Xavi letting him know that he is not in his plans. Depay attracted interest from several European clubs but only would leave Barcelona for a top club.

Juventus now seem to have almost got his signing done. The Old Lady needs someone who can replace Paulo Dybala and partner up with Vlahovic in the attack. Memphis seems to be the perfect player for Juventus currently available in the market. At Barcelona, it would be quite difficult for him to break through the new players. Xavi trusts Aubameyang, Lewy, Raphinha, and Fati much more than him. So, it made sense for him to move and play regular football somewhere else.

Juventus ignited their interest in Depay when Morata was recalled by Atletico. No, the buy-back clause was there for Morata which meant Juventus had to go out in the market. Paulo Dybala also left for Roma. Juventus have not asserted dominance in the Serie A for some seasons now. They have just managed to finish top 4 in the last 2 seasons. Allegri is hoping to get Juventus back on track like old times which saw the club make some signings.

A Turnaround Season For Juventus?

Juventus look like a shadow of their former self. They look far away from challenging Inter Milan and AC Milan for the Serie A title. It will take at least a couple of seasons for them to get back to their best. The Old Lady lost out to big players this summer. Morata, Dybala, Chiellini have left for different clubs. De Ligt left for Bayern Munich this summer in an expensive move. For the last 2 seasons, they have just managed to make the top 4 in Serie A.

Inter and AC Milan look too strong at this moment. It would be a big surprise if Juventus can beat them to the title. The Nerazzurri have signed Romelu Lukaku again who will look to partner with Lautaro and lead Inter to another title. Meanwhile, AC Milan have the strongest side in Italy and will be looking to retain their Serie A title. While Juventus have signed some quality players themselves, it is hard to imagine them dethroning Milan. The title race is going to be a blockbuster race.
