Memphis Depay was all set to sign for Juventus this summer. The Barcelona man agreed on contract termination with the Catalan club. Xavi was clear to Depay that he does not consider him in his plans. Depay had to look for a new club but agreed to move only to a top club. That club was Juventus who were looking to replace Alvaro Morata. The Spaniard returned to Atletico this season and Juventus missed firepower in the attack. Paulo Dybala also left for free to join Roma.
Depay last week was set to join Juventus until the move stalled. Reportedly, he asked for a higher salary which Juventus were not willing to agree to. They were suspicious that Memphis received an offer from some other club that made him demand more money. To this, Bianconeri are not willing to agree to terms with Depay now. They are looking to identify other options in the market that may prove much cheaper than Memphis.
Arkadiusz Milik is the player Juventus are looking to get. The Polish international is currently with Marseille after he moved from Napoli. The Old Lady have decided that they will look to sign Milik if Depay holds on to his high salary demands. The contract termination with Barcelona looks imminent but no other club is offering for Depay at the moment. The dutchman continues to warm the bench for Barcelona as Xavi prefers other options over him.
How many more transfers at Barcelona?
The transfer window has around 4-5 days to go. Xavi reinstates the fact in every press conference that Barcelona will look to strengthen the squad till the last day. However, it is a right-back position that they consider signing a player for. Sergi Roberto has high defensive vulnerabilities and Ronald Araujo has offensive ones. Jules Kounde also likes to be deployed as a Centre back.
Meanwhile, many feel that Barcelona may go for a striker to play backup to Lewandowski. This is the case when Depay and Aubameyang will both leave the club. Aubameyang looks set to leave but the same cannot be said about Depay unless a club offers for him. Manchester United are looking to offer for him but they may just pursue Antony from Ajax.
