The summer transfer market is currently open with a lot of things happening. Many big names are joining Premier League making it even more interesting. The transfer market will close on August 30 at 11 pm UK time. Tottenham Hotspurs have signed Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth. They paid £55 million for him and have offered a contract till 2030. However Solanke joining Spurs may help Arsenal as they are in the search of a striker too. Spurs have recently made their third signing of the summer window. Earlier they signed Archie Gray from Leeds for £35 million. They have also signed Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig. Werner spent the last half of 2023/24 season on loan to Tottenham. He has now been signed on a season long loan.
Tottenham sign Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth
Tottenham have completed the signing of Solanke. They have paid £55 million to Bournemouth. According to Sky Sports, they will pay £10 million more in form of bonuses. Spurs strikers have been very poor since Harry Kane left last year. On the other hand, Solanke had a very good 2023/24 season. He scored 21 goals and provided 4 assists in 42 matches. He played all of the 38 matches in Premier League and was able to score 19 times.
A total of £65 million bid has been accepted and Solanke has signed a long term contract. He will be with Tottenham until 2030. Liverpool will also earn some of the money as they had a sell-on clause installed. Solanke played for Liverpool in the 2017/18 season. Ange Postecoglou told earlier that need to sign a new striker. He seems to be backed by the board. After the deal was confirmed, Neill Blake who is chief executive of Bournemouth had his say. He said the deal developed very quickly but Solanke was very professional. Blake thanked Solanke and praised him for his rise in the club. To conclude, he said that they are happy to secure the club record fee for Solanke and wished the player best for future.
Dominic Solanke also had his say about his move. He said Tottenham is a magnificent club and huge club. He added that he is delighted to start and meet his new teammates. Solanke said that the ambition of Spurs excites him. To conclude he said that Spurs have great manager and great players and it will suit his style of play.
How will Solanke joining Spurs benefit Arsenal
Arsenal are in need of a new striker. They are linked with Viktor Gyokeres. However Gyokeres has many clubs interested in him. One of those were the Arsenal’s arch rivals Tottenham Hotspurs. However, Spurs are now out of the race as they have signed Dominic Solanke which will give Arsenal a narrow lead in the race. Gunners are now very busy to complete the deal of Mikel Merino. However they need to speed up their process. The deadline day is rapidly approaching. Gunners need to move fast if they want to sign Gyokeres.
Arsenal have Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah as their strikers. However they both had a very poor 2023/24 season. They were only able to score 9 goals combined in the league. On the other hand, Gyokeres scored 43 goals last season along with providing 14 assists. Out of those 29 goals and 10 assists came in Portugese league. He helped Sporting to win the league title. The addition of Gyokeres can prove very important for the Gunners side. Arsenal maybe finally able to win the Premier League for first time since 2004. However, they will need to pay around £85 million to Sporting if they want to sign Gyokeres.
