The Derby rivals will be facing each other again, as Manchester United host Manchester City in the one-legged EFL Cup(Carabao Cup) semi-final on Wednesday night at Old Trafford.
Both the clubs had faced each other at the same stage last year, with City grabbing a narrow win in the 2-legged semi-final. Their recent meet in the Premier League ending in a boring stalemate.
Manchester United approach the semi-final after defeating Aston Villa 2-1 on New Year’s Day. They had moved up on level points with Liverpool. But the leader’s loss against Southampton on Tuesday night gives United a great chance to steer ahead of them.
Manchester City has turned things around after a poor start. They thrashed Chelsea 3-1 on the weekend and moved up the table. Their defensive stats have increased promptly which will help them a lot.
MANCHESTER UNITED VS MANCHESTER CITY PREVIEW:
Manchester United will be making their 16th semi-final appearance in this competition. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be hoping to break City’s dominance, along with winning his first silverware after being named United’s manager.
Surprisingly, Ole has had the better of Pep Guardiola. Out of the 6 times, they have met, United have won 3 of them whereas City has won only 2. This is by far Pep’s worst managerial record against any managers he has faced.
Manchester City will be hoping to win the trophy for the 4th year in a row, since last achieved by Liverpool from 1981 to 1984. If City goes on to win the trophy, they can equal the record of winning it 7 times, currently held by Liverpool.
Pep will be roaring to take revenge on the club that had a league double over them. They will be the favorites, heading into the competition as they have had better results in recent years.

MANCHESTER UNITED VS MANCHESTER CITY TEAM NEWS:
United is finally getting a solid team that can be relied on. Having said that, rotation is also important in a congested calendar. It is definitely good news for the Red Devils as they have a completely fit squad. So a strong squad can be expected.
Victor Lindelof had been playing with a back injury most of the time, but he missed his last 2 matches as it was getting worse. Eric Bailly has been doing a brilliant job in his absence. It looks like he has recovered, but is Ole going to play him or not remains unknown. Other than that, there are no injury concerns. Edinson Cavani will be missing as a part of his 3-match ban.
It is a nightmare for the Blues as compared to the Reds. Ederson, Gabriel Jesus, Kyle Walker, Ferran Torres, Eric Garcia and Tommy Doyle were all missing from the squad that faced Chelsea due to Covid-19. However, that didn’t affect the team in any way as they thrashed Chelsea. But we can expect them to miss the Derby clash.
Aymeric Laporte and Nathan Ake were also missing due to minor injuries. They will be expected to be fit for the clash.
Manchester United’s predicted Line-up:
Manchester City’s predicted Line-up:
Manchester United 2-2 Manchester City (United advancing through penalties)
Both the team are in tremendous form and it will be really difficult to predict a clear winner. They played a draw last time they met. This time it will definitely be an exciting match with plenty of goals. Even if it ends in a draw, one team will be winning either way or the another as there is no second leg.
