Enzo Fernandez unable to adapt to new Chelsea style of play under Maresca?

Current Chelsea captain Enzo Fernandez is struggling for the Blues. We have seen glimpses of brilliance from him. But, he is capable of so much more. We haven’t seen the best of the 23-year-old star for a long time now. At the same time, he has been unable to stay consistent in the Premier League. The midfielder will have to up his game in order to remain in the starting XI. Also, he will have to adapt and improve his involvement in front of goal.

Enzo Fernandez struggling under Maresca?

The 23-year-old had a more creative attacking role under Mauricio Pochettino. But now, he operates in both attacking as well as defensive midfield. As a result, he is not able to perform at his best. Especially given his lack of pace and athleticism. His passing is his best ability. At the same time, Enzo Fernandez is a set-piece specialist. But, Chelsea fans are yet to see the best of him under Maresca. The 23-year-old will have to adapt to the new system. Else, he could soon lose out his place in the starting XI. Although, Maresca could also try to tweak his tactics and try to find a better role for the midfielder.

Romeo Lavia: A better alternative?

As per tribuna, Romeo Lavia could be a better option for the manager. The thing is that the new system benefits Lavia. As a result, he is able to dictate the tempo from midfield. That is the exact reason why he was the best Chelsea player in the pre-season. But, then again, he is also injury prone. So, it will be interesting to see how much Maresca can rely upon him. At the same time, Enzo Fernandez will be keen to adapt and cement his place in the starting XI. Hopefully, he can start producing at his best again.
