Eric Garcia shown door by Barcelona

Despite the recent turmoil at the club, Barcelona are keen to offload a number of players this summer. Reports suggest that Eric Garcia could be among them. The 22- year old ex-Manchester city man hasn’t been able to secure a foothold at club. Many believed the then teenager would be the heir to Carlos Puyol. After a brief stint with City Eric too was keen to join the Blaugrana.

Garcia has played just 29 minutes of club football since it restarted in late December. The 22-year-old managed less than 30 minutes against Intercity in the Cup Del Rey on Wednesday of last week. Later on he was overlooked for significant La Liga matches against Espanyol and Atletico Madrid.

Another La Masia Wonderkid

Garcia, a promising young player in Barcelona’s La Masia youth academy from the age of seven, was a steadfast captain while competing in older age divisions. The 19-year-old has already won two youth European Championship titles and is a mainstay of Spain’s wildly successful youth teams. He helped Spain become runners- up in the FIFA under-17 World Cup in 2017 but was sent to the sidelines in the process. There his future teammate Phil Foden scored a hat trick in the championship game. Garcia was the only 18-year-old on Spain’s under-21 team the previous year.

His 2017 move to Manchester shocked Barça’s top brass, especially in light of Puyol’s involvement. With it, Garcia joined other young adults who had already left La Masia for foreign lands, like Cesc Fabregas, Gerard Pique, Hector Bellerin, Andre Onana, and Mauro Icardi.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are leading the race for La Liga with a chance to widen the gap with Real madrid as the two meet this month.
