Erling Haaland proved yet again why he is going to be one of the best in the World. After being compared with 2 of the greatest players of the generation, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, he gave the gentleman’s reply to the news outlets.
The Norwegian has all the rights to be praised and compared. At just the age of 20, he has already been identified as one of the best strikers in the World. Standing at 6’4, he has already spread terror to the oppositions with his extreme talent and scary stance.
Haaland made his debut for the Norway side Molde at just 16-years of age. He scored 16 goals in 2 years before moving to the Austrian side RB Salzburg. This is where the star was born. In just 22 games, he scored 5 hattricks, with one of them coming in his Champions League debut.
He attracted big clubs, with Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund keen on getting his signature. However, it was the German side that came out to be the lucky one as they signed the goal-scoring machine for just €20 million.
This season with Borussia Dortmund, he has been guiding his team as a one-man army. They defeated Sevilla to progress into the quarter-finals with 4 out of the 5 goals scored by Haaland. Dortmund will have to defeat Manchester City to seal a semi-final spot.
A lot to improve to reach the level
One just cannot compare Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to other players. They are simply built different. On one hand, Messi is breaking records of most appearances, while on the other hand, Ronaldo is breaking the highest number of goals scored.
Although the G.O.A.T’s are growing older day by day, one can hardly say their performance has seen a dip. The Juventus star is the top scorer in Serie A and the Barcelona star is the leader in his respective league.
Their early exit in the Champions League has created commotion related to their future. But what they forget is that it is the team that lost, not the players. Both of them had given their best in the competition. However, the teammates were all sloppy and didn’t show hunger like them.
“I think only of myself, to improve my game every day and I don’t need to talk about Messi and Ronaldo, probably the best players in history. I still need a lot to reach them.” Erling Haaland told Dagbladet.
In the overall goals scored this season, Haaland is sandwiched between the legends. Messi is 4 goals ahead of him and Ronaldo is 3 goals behind him.
Where will Erling Haaland end up playing?
This current season he became the youngest and the fastest player to score 20 Champions League goals, a record which will remain unbreakable for a while. He has scored 21 goals in 21 Bundesliga games and has a total goal tally of 33 this season.
Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland have been tipped to be the successors of Ronaldo and Messi who ruled the football World together for 15 years. Both the starlets have been making name for their performances however, Haaland will steal the spotlight for the coming season.
His fine form has rewarded him with big clubs running for his signature. Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Manchester City are the clubs that have shown the zeal in signing him.
And we can also expect him to play for any one of the above clubs. With the release clause of €75 million being activated only in 2022, the clubs will have to pay his current market value. Although Dortmund would not want to part ways with the striker, they will let him go if a bid of more than €100 million is made.
