The English club Tottenham Hotspur is set to release their club record signing on a free transfer in the summer transfer window. Back in 2019, Spurs signed Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon as a club-record signing in a deal that could have risen to 65M. However, the French international has not lived up to expectations in his time in the club. Recently, Everton has been targeting to sign Ndombele from Spurs on a free transfer.
Spurs brought Ndombele back in 2019, hoping to make the midfield strong. But the Frenchman made only 91 appearances for the club scored just 10 goals and provided 9 assists. Since then this 27-year-old midfielder completed three loan spells in the last and a half years. He completed his loan spell in his former club Lyon, plus Napoli and Galatasaray. The Spurs chairman claimed that they would leave Tanguy Ndombele for free, despite still having another year left on his current contract.
Everton is looking for a new midfielder in the summer transfer market. The former Barcelona player Andre Gomes already signaled his Everton farewell through a social media post on 7th June. The Portuguese midfighter’s contract expires in the summer, so he will leave the club. Former Spurs midfielder and English international Dele Alli will also leave Everton. He will leave the club at the end of the month when his contract ends. Amadou Onana is open to talking with big teams about a potential move in the summer. As many big clubs are approaching to sign Onana, the Belgian midfielder’s future is also uncertain at Everton. So, Sean Dyche’s team is looking for a replacement for the midfielder position. Tanguy Ndombele is one of the targets in the summer.

But in recent times Everton suffered many setbacks, including a 10-point deduction for a breach of profit and sustainability rules back in November 2023. Recently, several new parties tried to take over Everton after a deal with 777 partners collapsed. As the club is facing major turmoil in financial spaces, manager Dyche and director of football Kevin Thelwell are looking for some free transfer which will fill the gap in the team. The club also kept looking to bring some players on loan. Everton is eager to bring Manchester City’s English midfielder Kalvin Phillips on a season-long loan.
So, they consider Tanguy Ndombele as a good option for them. The club also revealed that they have been tracking the Frenchman since 2018. Back in 2018, Everton’s then-chief scout Martyn Glover first acknowledged his potential, but because of the high price, Everton never tried to sign him in the past. Now, it seems like there is a chance to sign the Frenchman for free. Signing Ndombele for free would be a remarkable piece of business for the toffees.
