Ralf Rangnick believes Bayern Munich were wrong to bring in England striker Harry Kane.
Kane’s Numbers Don’t Impress Everyone
Harry Kane has been on fire since his move to Bayern Munich from Tottenham in 2023. The England skipper was signed for a huge £104m. He has smashed in 83 goals and made 26 assists in just 93 matches across all competitions.
Statistically, he’s been a beast. He is contributing to more than a goal per game. He lifted the Bundesliga title this season. That marked the first major trophy of his career. But, not everyone is sold on the transfer.
Ralf Rangnick, former interim Man Utd boss, has questioned the big-money move. Speaking to Sport, Rangnick said he wouldn’t have signed Kane and likened the transfer to taking a chance on a roulette table.
Ralf Rangnick Wants Youth Over Experience
Rangnick is now managing Austria’s national team. He suggested Bayern should have focused on building for the future instead of betting on a seasoned star. He thinks investing in younger talent, makes more sense.
The manager has many years of experience in pursuing a football management career. He is known to build young, strong squads. His comments might not go down well for Kane fans or Bayern fans. That is more so because of Kane’s size of impact in Germany.
However, Rangnick stated one thing clearly that the transfer was not smart in any way for the long-term. Kane has had to prove his worth recently, scoring in a 2-1 win over Boca Juniors in the Club World Cup.
Nevertheless, Rangnick is very much entitled for his opinion. He has started a discussion on whether big name signings always justify the risk attached to it. As Bayern seeks to build for the future, Kane will have the pressure on him to prove he is more than just a short-term solution.
