FA Cup Chelsea 4-0 Morecambe: Post-match Analysis

Chelsea beat the League Two side, Morecambe, by 4-0 in the FA Cup third round at Stamford Bridge and reached the next round.

Goals from Mason Mount, Timo Wener, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Kai Havertz gave Chelsea a comfortable victory against a much weaker side.

Timo Werner now scored in Chelsea shirt after twelve games against a fourth division side and Kai Havertz scored for the Blues after fifteen games. Havertz now contributed three goals in back to back matches.

This victory for Chelsea and much-needed goals for the summer signings Timo Werner and Kai Havertz will give them boost after their poor run of forms.

Chelsea 4-0 Morecambe team news:

Frank Lampard made few changes his team, Kepa Arrizabalaga started after a month. It was the only fifth start in this season for the world’s most expensive goalkeeper.

Also, Kai Havertz and Callum Hudson-Odoi were on the team sheet. Billy Gilmour the young Scottish midfielder made his start after almost a month.

Morecambe went with 4-2-3-1 formation and Cole Stockton the English forward led the line for the Shrimps.

Chelsea 4-0 Morecambe Post-match analysis:

Chelsea controlled possession from the start and took the lead after Mount hit a long-range strike into the bottom left-hand corner.

Just before the break, Havertz set up his Germany international teammate Werner to tap in from close range, an excellent Hakim Ziyech cross from the right side.

Four minutes into the second-half, Chelsea scored their third after an another Hakim Ziyech’s wonderful pass in behind the Morecambe defence found Hudson-Odoi to an easy finish.

Havertz then scored his second goal for the club with a powerful header from Cesar Azpilicueta’s great floating cross on the 85th-minute mark.

Chelsea had 84% of the ball in the game and managed to trouble the goalkeeper eight times out of their 25 attempts.

Morecambe didn’t have much opportunity to go higher up the field but still, they managed 3 on target and one of them troubled Kepa as his positioning wasn’t right between the stick.

Notable performances:

Kai Havertz(CAM) – (7.5/10)(Chelsea): The headed cut back for the Werner goal was excellent and his head for the fourth goal was excellent as well.

Callum Hudson-Odoi(LW) – (7.5/10)(Chelsea): Took the third goal pretty well and also assisted the Mount goal.

Hakim Ziyech(RW) – (7/10)(Chelsea): Delivery for the second goal was pinpoint accurate and the ball for the Hudson-Odoi goal was similarly outstanding.

It was a pretty easy victory for Chelsea after their bad run of form in recent times and this win will give a breathing space for Lampard after the rumours are coming that Chelsea board is unhappy with his team’s bad defeat against Manchester City.

Chelsea will play away to Fulham in the London derby in Premier League on 15th January. Which should be another easy victory for Lampard’s men and carrying on winning back of this win.
