FA Cup Third-Round Draw: Tottenham Hotspur to face 8th tier team

Current Premier League leaders Tottenham Hotspur will travel to face eighth-tier team Marine FC in the FA Cup third-round. The third round will be played between 8 and 11th January.

Marine FC are only the second team from the eighth-tier to reach the third round winning seven games in a row. They defeated Colchester in the first round on their way to round three.

Defending FA Cup winners Arsenal will play Newcastle United at the Emirates. The Gunners are currently on a losing streak at home and have lost three in a row Premier League games. Moreover, The Magpies are yet to taste defeat on the road in all comps. This will certainly be a great contest.

Chelsea are to face League Two side Morecambe FC at home. The Blues are in a good form, sitting at third in the Premier League. This is surely an easy fixture for the London giants.

However, FA Cup is a competition for ‘giant-killers’, depicted precisely in Chelsea’s 2-4 home defeat against Bradford in 2015’s FA Cup after going 2-0 up.

FA Cup History and Stats:

The English FA Cup is the oldest football competition in the world. It started 149 years ago in 1871. It is a domestic knockout competition where non-league and professional clubs from all over England and Wales battle to win the prestigious trophy.

The winners qualify directly to the UEFA Europa League and get to play with the respective season’s Premier League champions in the FA Community Shield. Arsenal are the most successful club in the competition with 14 titles.

The FA Cup started on 31st August this season. The qualifying rounds and two main rounds have already been played but the next round is scheduled to commence in January next year with 64 teams left in the competition. However, the FA already released the fixtures. All the Premier League clubs will enter the comp in this third round.

FA Cup Round-Three Fixtures of United, City and Liverpool

The 12-times winners Manchester United will welcome Watford in their third-round tie. Their last meeting saw United win 3-0 at the Old Trafford. The Red Devils started to gain some rhythm in the league after a poor start. Watford are also in a good form in the Championship.

The 2019 FA Cup runners up relegated from the Premier League last season. Clearly, it will be another cracking FA Cup game.

Manchester City have a relatively easier fixture with Championship outfit Birmingham City coming to the Etihad in January. The 2019 FA Cup champions are struggling this season in the league and are at 11th currently. But they are expected to bounce back strongly.

Liverpool will travel to Aston Villa with memories of the 7-2 defeat still fresh. The Reds are facing a tough time currently with several first-team players injured. Still, they are second in the league on goal difference to Spurs showing their strength and depth in their squad.

However, Villa’s form has dropped after their flying start to the season. They sit at tenth in the league, six points off Liverpool with a game in hand.

Eye-catching Fixtures of the FA Cup Third-Round:

There will be some mouthwatering fixtures in the third round of the FA Cup. Aston Villa vs Liverpool will top the lot as The Reds seek revenge of their 7-2 demolition earlier this season.

Marine FC is a team to look out for as they played with heart and courage so far as they host Spurs. Wolverhampton Wanderers host Crystal Palace, both teams showed promise and inconsistency this season.

Some other fixtures are Crawley vs Leeds United, QPR vs Fulham, Barnsley vs Tranmere Rovers, Norwich City vs Coventry City, Stoke vs Leicester, etc.

Among the top-six clubs, Citizens, Chelsea, and Spurs have easily winnable fixtures. Gunners, United, and Liverpool have considerably strong opponents and their games promise to be exciting.

However, they should win considering their elite status. Other significant teams, who may be going through this round, include Wolves, Tranmere Rovers, Leicester, Fulham, Norwich, Reading FC, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, etc.

FA Cup is one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world. So the FA Cup, with their 140th edition, come back to excite all football fans and make us fall in love with the beautiful game.
