Fabrizio Romano: Chelsea to struggle in landing defender

Ever since Todd Boehly and Clearlake took over, Chelsea are always linked with top talents across the world. They have signed some of the greatest talents and have a very impressive squad. The Blues are not shy to take bold decisions and are always looking to improve the quality of the squad. Their top targets for the next transfer market are already out and Chelsea are linked with Castello Lukeba this time.

Castello Lukeba is 21 years old French defender who plays for RB Leipzig. He joined the German club last year from French side Lyon. Lukeba signed a five year contract with Leipzig who paid around €34 million for his signature. He had a very good 2023/24 season where he impressed a lot of top clubs including Chelsea.

Signing Castello Lukeba proving difficult for Chelsea

Fabrizio Romano shared a update about Chelsea’s situation regarding signing Lukeba. He wrote in his daily briefing of CaughtOffiside that there is nothing concrete at the moment about Chelsea and Lukeba. Romano added that there are no talks and no negotiations ongoing.

He also told that many clubs are looking to sign Lukeba next year. Mostly, Spanish and English clubs are keen to sign the French defender. But it will not be easy to lure Lukeba away from Leipzig in January as the German club have already sold Simakan.

Enzo Maresca is able to get very good results in the recent days. Chelsea are looking strong both offensively and defensively. He will not like to change the winning squad and disturb the rhythm.

The Premier League giants already have many players in the current squad. It proves very difficult for the manager to give everyone enough gametime. On the contrast, constant changes may hamper the club’s progress. The Blues currently have 5-6 players who can play as centre-back.
