As per a report by ESPN, Barcelona are interested in AC Milan’s goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Italian’s agent Mino Raiola has reportedly offered a deal to the Catalan club to swoop the free agent this summer.
Donnnarumma rose to fame when he made his first-team debut for AC Milan as a 16-year-old. Since then he has never looked back and has been a mainstay in the Milan side for 6 years now.
Till now, the Italian has made 251 appearances for AC Milan, keeping 87 clean sheets in the process. While he also played a great role this season as his team secured a Champions League spot. The Italian appeared 48 times while conceding only 54 goals in all competitions this season.
However, the goalkeeper has no future at San Siro, as his current deal runs out this summer. AC Milan’s director Paolo Maldini also confirmed on Wednesday that the Italian will leave the club as a free agent.
The free-agent has already attracted some big clubs to sign him such as Manchester United, Chelsea, and Juventus. But it is believed that the player has his heart set for the Spanish giants Barcelona. His agent has already approached the Catalan club with an offer, based on which negotiations are going on.
Barcelona have been offered a deal for Donnarumma
Barcelona have not had the need to sign a top-class goalkeeper for a few years now. As their first-choice goalkeeper, Marc ter Stegen has been phenomenal in front of the goal.
However, the Catalans have to worry now for the goalkeeper spot as their current No 1 is going through fitness issues. The German goalkeeper is suffering from knee problems during the last three seasons and will also miss the Euros this year because of surgery.
There were also rumors about Barcelona willing to sell ter Stegen, but the club denied that and he will be staying until his contract ends in 2025. However, the club has listed their second-choice goalkeeper Neto for transfer in the summer.
It is believed that they are now looking for a replacement for Neto, while a successor for ter Stegen also. The promotion of Barcelona B goalkeeper Inaki Pena to the first team has also been discussed. But the club is said to want a more experienced option as a backup to ter Stegen.
And now it seems a replacement has landed on their doorsteps with an offer for Donnarumma. The player’s agent has approached the Spanish club with an for the Italian. It is believed that Barcelona has held positive talks over the move and is willing to offer the Italian goalkeeper a yearly salary of €10m.
But Barcelona has to hurry with their negotiations as many other clubs are interested in talented youngster. So, now let’s wait and see where the Italian lands himself in the next season. Whether he would fly to England or Spain or stay in Italy by signing for Juventus.
