FC Barcelona had the chance of signing two Argentines for 30 million euros

Julian Araujo

Argentina finally lifted the World Cup after a wait of 36 years. But it was shocking to know that there has not been a single FC Barcelona player in the World Cup winning squad. Despite the fact that 17 players from FC Barcelona represented their country in the World Cup, none of them played for Argentina.

As per reports from SPORT, Barcelona lacks vision while searching for talent from Latin America. According to reports, the Catalan club had the opportunity of signing Julian Alvarez as well as Enzo Fernandez. Both of them played a crucial role in Argentina’s world cup triumph. A combined fee of 30 million euros could have been one of the best deals in recent years for the Spanish giants.

FC BARCELONA’S MISSED OPPORTUNITY IN SIGNING ENZO FERNANDEZ AND JULIAN ALVAREZ

Enzo Fernandez had a terrific World Cup campaign scoring an absolute banger against Mexico. He was an immediate upgrade in the midfield. Both his attacking and defensive prowess played a key role in Argentina’s world cup triumph. He was awarded the Best Young Player of the Tournament for his endeavors. Now he currently plays for Benfica after moving out from River Plate and FC Barcelona has to push their luck if they want to sign him now.

Similarly, Julian Alvarez won the Argentine hearts after his crucial world cup performance. He scored 4 goals throughout the World Cup with his 2 goals coming against Croatia in the semi-final. He was available for a meager 20 million euros in January after getting signed by Manchester City.

Overall FC Barcelona could have paid an overall fee of 30 million euros for both of the Argentines. They could have been a proper backup in the Barcelona attack and midfield. Now it definitely seems like Enzo is going to cost quite heavily if Barcelona goes for him. On the other hand, Julian has already joined City and after his performance, the Etihad will like to keep him as a proper backup for Haaland.
