FC Barcelona is ‘seeking legal counsel’ regarding the loan of Antoine Griezmann

FC Barcelona is over the line with Antoine Griezmann’s loan move to Atletico Madrid, suspecting irregularities on Roji Blancos’ side. According to sources in Spain, Barcelona is seeking legal counsel on Antoine Griezmann’s loan to Atletico Madrid.

Griezmann had left for Atletico last summer on a two-year loan with an obligation to buy if specific clauses are achieved.  The deal has a reported clause that includes a compulsory obligation to purchase if the players accumulate fifty percent minutes across the two seasons. The fee would then rise to 40 million euros which the Roji Blancos are not ready to pay. The club had reportedly approached Barcelona to take the player back or renegotiate a much lower fee. FC Barcelona had, however, stood against it.

FC Barcelona faces complications in the loan

Atletico Madrid has taken a firm stand on the issue. Faced with their financial regulations, the club is unwilling to pay 40 million for the aged Frenchman. The French international is yet to start a match for any of the four league matches this season. The player has come from the bench after the hour mark in all the games. Within those minutes, he scored two goals for the club.

Diego Simeone was asked about the issue, to which he replied with a somewhat inconclusive statement. He said;

“You have known me for ten years now; I am a man of the club, and I always will be,”

The club has restricted his involvement in the matches. It will be interesting to see if Simeone keeps the player on the bench, considering its packed schedule. According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona has approached its sports attorneys to look for any irregularities in Atletico Madrid’s actions.

One thing is for sure, Griezmann has no future in Camp Nou under Xavi and the current board.
