FC Barcelona is interested in swapping Sergino Dest with Manchester United Portuguese full-back Diogo Dalot. The American right-back has fallen out of favor with Xavi’s team. The club would like to let him leave to free up the worrisome wage bill before the end of the transfer window.
Xavi has left out Dest from the squad list for the La Liga games. The coaching staff believes that the American hasn’t understood the philosophy of the club. It would only make sense for him to leave the club to have secured gametime.
FC Barcelona’s plan for the right-back position
By excluding Dest from the Dest, Xavi has sent a clear message to the player and the board. He wants a new right-back that understands the requirements. The club is without any natural right-back in the squad. Xavi has deployed Araujo in the position. But Araujo’s incapabilities with the ball at his feet means he hasn’t been comfortable in the role. Sergi Roberto is also an option for the role, along with Jules Kounde. Kounde, however, is also not a right-back, even though he is a better choice than Araujo.
Barcelona is therefore scanning the market for a low-cost right-back. Amid the chaos surrounding Dest, Manchester United has appeared as a potential suitor for Dest. Erik Ten Hag, who coached Dest in Ajax, would love to have him in his squad. The Red Devils are looking to sell Aaron Wan-Bissaka and would love to replace him with Sergino. According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona would be happy to secure a direct swap deal with Manchester United for Dest, considering they include Diogo Dalot.
Dest is, however, against any move out of the club. He wants to prove to Xavi that he can be an integral part of the squad.
